Becoming a SCIO

Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation

Churches which are currently unincorporated should consider re-structuring as Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisations (SCIOs). The article on Why Consider Becoming a SCIO? explains why you should be thinking about this. The Model Baptist Church SCIO Constitution gives an example of a SCIO Constitution for the mythical “Wharf Baptist Church” (named after the BUS Office at Speirs Wharf). This Model has been approved by OSCR and updated to reflect best practice as at January 2021. It can be adapted appropriately to the context of any Baptist Church in Scotland.

A clause by clause Commentary on the Model Constitution is currently being updated and will be posted on this website shortly. This will be followed by a Companion Guide to the whole process of re-structuring as a SCIO. In the meantime, please contact us if more information is required.

Prayer

Prayer is at the heart of our Union. The prayer calendar is a framework to help individuals or congregations pray for all our churches throughout the year.  Every Sunday evening several hundred people from our churches across Scotland join in our National Prayer Livestream.
