Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation

A church which is currently unincorporated may wish to consider restructuring as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (“SCIO”).

The article Why Consider Restructuring to a SCIO? written by the BUS Solicitor Alan Holloway explains why you might want to think about this.

The Model Baptist Church SCIO Constitution gives an example of a SCIO Constitution for the mythical “Wharf Baptist Church” (named after the BUS office at Speirs Wharf). This Model prepared by Alan has been approved by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (“OSCR”) and updated to reflect best practice as at January 2024.

It can be adapted appropriately to the context of any Baptist church in Scotland.
