28 Aug, 2024

It is always encouraging for other churches to hear of ways that God is moving in communities through different resources and ideas, especially as we are pursuing God’s call to the Increase vision and sharing stories of growth. Jo Hood of Mainly Ministries, and Iain Currie, Children’s Worker at Lerwick Baptist Church share some of the churches heart and vision for the community in Shetland, and the way they have established connections with over 40 new families through music…

“Mainly Music is a music-based toddler group for all preschool-aged children, the session includes a time to play and snack and tea & coffee for the adults. The session always includes some faith-inspired songs.

We started in October 2023 with a bang, almost overwhelmed by the amount of families that wanted to come to this new ministry. We have a great team from the church that have enabled this new initiative to work and be able to reach so many. Since starting we’ve had around 80 families that have come with an average of around 25 coming each week.
Mainly Music has given us incredible opportunities to be able to reach out and connect with families outside of church. It has been very encouraging to see a group of regulars forming and a community starting to form and feel comfortable in the church while building relationships. From this we have had a number of families coming to others events and ministries that we run.”
Jo Hood, Founder of Mainly, was also in touch to share about how encouraged they were to see the growth at both Lerwick and Falkirk Baptist and said, :’

Falkirk Baptist has started mainly play as a connection with young families in their community. Using stories, craft, interactive activities, and a little bit of music, they provide a time for building a joy-filled community of belonging. The team is passionate to see Jesus revealed through their lives and the interactions they have with families. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect and care for families with babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers, to provide them with a safe environment of learning and friendship, and to serve great cake!

I hope you all enjoy celebrating these two churches as we do!
