  3. General Director Recruitment Process Update

13 Aug, 2026

“Like our Union, the new General Director Search Team is a diverse group drawn from across the country, reflecting the breadth of our Baptist theological convictions. The Team members are as follows:

  • Chair:Alan Milnes (Trustee of the Baptist Union of Scotland and elder at Leslie Baptist Church)
  • Simeon Baker (General Secretary of the Baptist Union of Wales)
  • Graham Bell (Chair, Board of Ministry)
  • Ian Birch (Principal, Scottish Baptist College)
  • Sandra Cobbin (BUS Peaceful Transformation Team and member of Queen’s Park Baptist Church)
  • Don Currie (Pastor, Dumbarton & Leven Valley Baptist Church, former BUS Board and Council member, and Chair of GD Search Group in 2019)
  • Sylvia Jones (Trustee of the Baptist Union of Scotland and member of Galashiels Baptist Church)
  • Liam Morton (Pastor, Lossiemouth Baptist Church)
  • Zak Robb (Pastor, Portlethen Christian Fellowship)
  • Jim Turrent (Lead Pastor, Central Baptist Church, Dundee)

Additionally, we are very grateful for the secretarial and administrative support provided by Katy Swan.

We are thankful that these people bring to the task a wealth of ministry experience in church and secular organisations.

As a team we are united in our trust that God will guide us to the person He is calling to be the next BUS General Director: someone with zeal to carry forward the vision of Increase, anointed to lead the Union and the National Team, and that as a team they will inspire and encourage our 155 Baptist churches to seek and establish God’s Kingdom in our nation with renewed shared confidence.

Our current task is to review the job advert and how the information about the role is presented. We are seeking to maximise the opportunity for the right person to encounter the role, engage with the vision and prayerfully discern whether God may be calling them.

We are also making decisions about the interview and selection process to ensure that applicants can demonstrate their character, competencies, skills and experience for the role, which will allow the team to discern who God is calling to this position. A recommendation will be brought to Council on 28th October, with an official announcement made at our Autumn Gathering on 14th November.

We very much value your ongoing prayers for our work as a Search Team. Please pray that God will be preparing the person for this important role within our Union. Remember too the National Team in your prayers as they diligently continue the work and ministry of the Union supporting our churches during this lengthy vacancy.

Look out for details of other national opportunities to pray in the weeks ahead about this significant appointment.

Time is short; the task is great, but we have a God who is ever-present and ever-ready to help. We keep our eyes on Him.

Blessings,”

Alan Milnes, Chair of the Search Group
