Homes for Ukrainian Refugees
By Martin Hodson, General Director, BUS
After a month of war in Ukraine we continue to cry out to God for protection for people under threat, for safety for those who are displaced and for peace to be restored. Some familiar words of blessing have gained new depth for me as I have been praying them over Ukraine: ‘The Lord turn his face towards you and give you peace’ (Numbers 6.26).
Many people who have registered with the Government’s Homes For Ukraine scheme have been asking if there is a way we can link up with specific people from the Baptist community in Ukraine who would like to seek refuge in Scotland. I’m pleased to say, working in partnership with the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the European Baptist Federation, we now have a means to enable this.
You can go to the Ukraine Section of the BUGB website and click on the ‘Homes for Ukraine Refugees Sponsorship Scheme’ tab. There you will find a form to fill in with your details and the kind of accommodation you can offer.
As yet we do not know what the demand for homes in the UK will be, so this does not guarantee you will be linked up with someone. Also, there are distinct advantages to having clusters of refugee homes in the same area, for the mutual support of both refugees and hosts. So if you are aware that a group of people from your church are all offering accommodation, please indicate this in box 20 on the form.
Latest News from Churches in Ukraine
EBF continues to provide updates from Baptist churches in Ukraine. You can find the latest one here. It’s amazing to read how following Jesus in this crisis can mean anything from evacuating people from Mariupol or holding a baby shower as a sign of hope.
