‘Through the pouring rain, we gathered in Inchinnan, just outside Glasgow, from around the country to begin a year-long journey of learning about Church Planting.
Our first Baptist Union of Scotland cohort to join our training partnership with Forge Scotland consisted of eight people from four churches representing at least five possible church plants. There are also about the same number of people from other networks on the programme. This variety was reflected not only in church background but also in geography, with representation from Kyle of Lochalsh to Bigger and Aberdeen to Edinburgh and many places in between.
Perhaps the most significant element of the weekend was hearing the stories of those on the course and how God had led them to the space of church planting.
In addition to listening and learning from the stories of those on the course, we covered topics such as missional imagination; what is it to be a missional leader?; Church in Post- Christian Scotland. We also covered some practical matters, such as conducting a mission audit and understanding our values. There was also a lot of fun!
The training course is a spiritual formation program to prepare people to plant churches and missional projects around Scotland. I am excited to see how God will use this program to take those from our churches and prepare them for planting all around our nation.
Would you partner in prayer with those who are taking this step and join together as a family of churches to seek God’s increase for the blessing of our nation?
