We are Zak & Lyndsey Robb. We are involved in a church plant up North in Aberdeenshire called Portlethen Christian Fellowship and were offered a chance to share a little bit about some of the music we have recently released! Earlier this year we released our first solo-EP called Endlessly. You can catch it on all the usual streaming platforms.
Worship has always been a really core part of our individual and shared journey as a family together. We have both led worship in various contexts for the last 20 years. Zak also held the role of worship pastor for 9 years at Central Church in Edinburgh too, prior to us making the move up north. Something that we feel really strongly is that there is something really biblical about new songs being written that express the testimony of what God has done in a church community.
Songwriting has often been an expression of our congregational worship leading. Whether that be the spontaneous “in the moment” songs to name and thank God for what He is doing amongst us, or the more intentional craft of spending months writing and forming songs that we want to be singing. We’ve really worked at both over the years and released lots of songs under different banners – but this is the first time we’ve released something just under our name – we’re still not quite sure how we managed with 3 young children, but it happened! We’re very glad for good friends like Sam Rae who did a chunk of the work to push the songs over the line for releasing.
Here’s a wee bit of the journey of how we wrote the songs!
Worthy of Wonder is our newest song. We wrote it last year, and it comes fresh from the testimony of seeing Jesus at work amongst us in our church community in Portlethen. We felt really strongly that we were in a season particularly marked by God’s grace, in fact we couldn’t keep up with all the stories of answered prayer! It felt like writing a song of thankfulness was a way of anchoring us in this season and honouring God’s work amongst us.
Christ is Here is a little older and is a collaboration with a number of other friends. It was originally written through COVID as a way of calling us to hope that God is still with us, even as we faced the disorienting experience of isolation and distance from church family. We decided to record it again to reclaim it as a song for a new season – reflecting our belief that you can find Jesus at work in unexpected places when you look for him.
Birthplace was a wee instrumental written to celebrate the birth of our first child.
Endlessly – the title track – was a more creative production! It never felt quite so congregational but still very worshipful to us, reflecting our heart and experience of being caught up in life with Jesus.
